Item Description
25x25.5". Linen. Listed in Collins Threads of History as plate #192 on p. 121. Portrait encircled by stalks of wheat w/text "Clay/Frelinghuysen" above and below and "Tariff/Union" flanking. Corners feature graphics- "Agriculture And Commerce", "Union And Our Country", "Tariff Home League" and "Rolling In To Clear The Way" w/image of racoon holding a "Constitution" following ball. Typically examples are in a brown ink but this example utilizes black ink making for exceptional contrast and is thus a standout among its peers.
