Item Description
Group ( perhaps set?) of six beautifully colored 3 x 4-3/8" blank back cards each carrying name of apparent cartoonist "Kash".  Each man's name appears across his hat band. First is Ben Butler riding his "Presidential Ram" and having a paper $5.00 bill tucked in his hat band. He lost the Democratic nomination to Cleveland but in 1884  was presidential nominee of the Greenback and Anti-Monopoly Parties. Next is "P.T. Barnum" holding the reins of Jumbo his giant elephant who is pulling train cars inscribed "The Greatest Show on Earth". Third is "Jay Gould" financier and owner of the controlling interest in "Western Union" telegraph company with him riding a telegraph pole with a fierce canine face. Fourth is "W.H. Vanderbilt" riding his train with coal car labeled 'N.Y.C." for New York Central. Thanks to his dad, the Commodore, he was America's richest man 1877 to his death in 1885. Fifth is "Bob Ingersoll" lawyer, writer and best known political speech-maker in America during that era. Sixth is H. (Henry) Bergh founder of the A.S.P.C.A. in 1866 and later involved in founding New York and Massachusetts Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Reverses have thin traces of scrapbook paper residue. Fifth card at bottom carries name Charles F. Saul but this 1/8" has been clipped off the other five cards. Bright, clean and Rare.
