Item Description
21x30.5" framed. Section of cotton yard goods. Listed in Collins, Threads of History as plate #8 on p. 51. This design was produced in England c. 1785 and is titled "Apotheosis Of Franklin". Features Washington, in military uniform, who drives a leopard-drawn chariot past the "Liberty Tree" which also displays an upside down and torn "Stamp Act". Washington's passenger is Columbia who carries a placard reading "American Independence 1776." Only light wear. Exc. Not examined outside of frame. Entire scene from textile also includes Benjamin Franklin and the Goddess of Liberty, but is not included in the present section.
