Item Description
This is not only the first Donald Duck comic book but the very first Walt Disney comic book. Whitman/K.K. Publications ©1938. In same format as the Features Books, 8.5x11.25” with cardboard cover. 80 pages in bw featuring Sunday strip reprints from 1936 & 1937 including the first strips with Huey, Dewey & Louie. Classic cover art, front features Donald with a bubble pipe while back cover image is of him as an angel. Center two pages are loose. First half of the book has extremely faint area of moisture staining at top right corner about 1x1”. Barely shows and in no way affects the art. Front cover has penciled name at top left corner. Extreme margin has three minor tears 1/8 to .25”. Surface paper rub streak along spine edge. Back cover also has some surface paper rubs along top & bottom edges and at top right corner. Lower left corner has a minor 2” crease. All this is noted for complete accuracy but in no way takes away from the cover appearance which still displays quite nicely with deep rich color. For this type of book still a Fine copy. A very scarce and hard to find Disney comic. First we’ve offered in many years. Overstreet 2007 value in Fine = $1,140.00. This is the actual example as shown in Tomart's Disneyana Update #56 and comes w/a copy of that issue. From the Tomart Archives and comes w/COA signed by Tom Tumbusch & Ted Hake.
