Item Description
7.5" octagonal plate. Rust red portrait transfer of Jackson in uniform has text above "Gen. Jackson Hero Of America" and below "The Year 1824." Material from the 1824 campaign is scant at best w/the 1828 campaign typically identified as the ramp up of Presidential campaign material culture. This extremely rare octagonal plate production coincided w/La Fayette's return to American (see preceding lot). Jackson supporters undoubtedly saw an opportunity to attach their military hero's accolades to the fervor around La Fayette's return. Unusual portrait, "1824" date, striking blue ray border accents and extremely rare octagonal shape make this among the most impressive Jackson ceramic pieces we have encountered in our 58 years. No chips or restoration, an incredible survivor. NM. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
