Item Description
22x28". Produced in Baltimore by E. Sachse and Company. Center frame features Robert B. Elliott speaking before the House of Representatives and is surrounded by five smaller vignettes and a Civil War scene of black soldiers at top. Elliot was elected to the House in 1870 alongside three other African Americana nd a white man from South Carolina. This print commemorates his speech on the new Civil Rights Bill before the House in 1873 where he debated ex- Vice President of the Confederacy Alexander Stephens. Even age toning on margin w/scattered tearing and edge wear, most notably a horizontal 5.5" tear along right side in margin that makes its way onto the image of Sumner's statue.
