Item Description
16.5x22" on stock. Union bug in bottom left corner. Event dated June 19, 1976. Held at Millarden Farms in Woodbury, GA. Portrait of Carter and daughter standing w/mascots in cattle outfits. Text below portrait reads "Got Beef With Bureaucracy? Grind It." This fundraising event just after the 1976 primaries was an effort to "fatten the presidential campaign coffers" of the Carter campaign by having cattle farmers donate cattle to be auctioned off to raise money. Unfortunately, according to the Columbus Ledger, the effort was largely unsuccessful, w/the paper reporting: "Bidding started fairly strong but slackened almost immediately. Many of the Iowa donors ended up bidding on-and buying-the cattle they had donated, simply to keep prices from hitting bottom." Despite the failure of this event, Carter went on to easily win the nomination and defeat Gerald Ford in the general election to become the 39th President of the United States. Only light surface wear. NM. A rare poster highlighting the various ways that candidates attempt to raise money, and how sometimes they fail to produce the desired results.
