Item Description
2.75" large oval 1930s button by Parisian Novelty Co. of Chicago. Employee number at center and text for "A&W Root Beer." J. Willard Marriott and wife opened a 9-stool A&W stand in Washington, D.C. in 1927. This was incorporated as Hot Shoppes, Inc. in 1929. The company claims the invention of curb service. In the 1930s and 1940s, the company expanded into airline catering and food service management for the government. The first hotel came in 1957 and in 1967 the corporate name changed from Hot Shoppes to Mariott Corp. Thin layer of oxidation on metal back. Cello is clean and displays Mint.
