Item Description
1.75" with W&H backpaper showing soldier in a box car with "Schlitz Beer" emblems on its side. He prepares to throw a case of beer to his 4 buddies rushing toward the car. Text reads "Who Stole The Beer - 160th IND. And 3rd KY - Remember Halloween Night At Lexington." The button documents to the fall of 1898. The 160th Indiana volunteer infantry was in Newport News, VA from July 30th to August 31st, 1898. It was intended to be part of the Puerta Rico campaign but never shipped out because the peace protocol had been signed. Following Newport News the unit departed for Lexington, KY where the event described on this button apparently occurred. Reverse has W&H backpaper. Small dot dent on the reverse collet but all else is Exc. and displays Mint. About the second we've seen. Rare. See Yellow Kid Cuban reference buttons 1077, 1080.
