Item Description
1942 club kit consisting of a total of 8 pieces not including original 6x9" mailing envelope. Envelope is postally issued and has wear as such to corners and is VG/Fine overall. While we note in the Hake's Price Guide To Character Toys that this style envelope was issued in 1943-1944, it appears to have also been issued in the latter part of 1942. Has matching low nmber "2627," same as on certificate. Pieces include the following: 5.5x8.5" letter includes facsimile signature of Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) secretary. 8.5x11" certificate is 1st version with 13 characters including Superman, Batman and small images of Flash and Green Lantern at bottom as well as reference to Axis in text. Light corner tip wear with fold at center as issued. Exc. Rwb stiff paper code wheel is 4" dia. Light aging and matching inked name and address. N. Mint. "Youth And War Effort" pamphlet reprints M.C. Gaines 1942 CBS Radio broadcast which was a defense of comic books and call to involve children in the war room. N. Mint. Promotional "The Minuteman Answers The Call" comic folded at center as issued. N. Mint. Four-page letter by M.C. Gaines titled "School Defense Clubs For Victory." Mentions $25 Defense Bond to essay winners. Exc. Letter is scarce. "United States Defense Savings Bonds Booklet" also included. Exc. Also included is "Junior Justice Society of America" 1.5" tall muted silver luster embossed brass badge from 1942. This is version with back having thin wire soldered to the badge running vertically with a curved segment at its center. This is only the second time we've offered this pin variety and we know of only 3 examples of this style. Badge has a small lighter color mark on eagle's wing at right and slight loss of silver luster on raised areas including large letters. Reverse has 1/8" spot of minor corrosion on eagle's wing at same location as front mark. Fine and a rare variety of badge offered only 2 months because of wartime metal restrictions. Rare complete & early issue kit.
