Item Description
16" tall tin litho toy with built-in key. 1930s. An early version of this toy by J. Chein & Co. Original plain corrugated box remains clean and tight. Has some small tears around top of lid area and two tiny puncture marks on one side. Still VF for a box of this type. Toy features 6 individual cars with illustrations on each side of children enjoying the ride. One side also has smiling face image and name "Hercules." Nice designs on base including illustrations in front and back of the ride's entrance with ticket taker along with children at concession stands. Right and left side panels of base feature sideshow attractions. Toy works and ferris wheel revolves when wound. Also attached to one side is a spiral disk which is supposed to spin and strike the metal bell. Although all parts are present and disc revolves, striker does not touch bell. It would take a minor adjustment in order for this function to work. Inside floors of cars have very slight traces of oxidation, not offensive and not visible when toy is viewed from most angles. Other light scattered traces of wear but a bright and glossy example that works well other than the bell. VF.
