Item Description
Lot of six. 10.5" in dia. Each plate is marked on the back with the corresponding building name and "New York World's Fair 1939/Abraham & Straus Inc. Brooklyn, N.Y./1st Edition." Below that text is a stylized "A&S." Below that is a hallmark reading "Copeland Spode England." Illustrations on the front all have the artist name "Rolph Scarlett" appearing at lower edge. Rim of each plate shows the Trylon & Perisphere at the top. Four additional vignettes appear around the remaining border of each plate, each with a related theme to the building represented in the center. Buildings include: Hall of Production, Marine Transportation Building, Food Building, Textile Building, Shelter Building, Hall of Communications. All are well-made, glossy and Exc. First time offered as a set.
