While the badge designated "Ensign" is relatively common, this badge which is slightly larger and with the "Lt. Commander" rank on the bottom edge is a rarity as very few were awarded. Details on how this could be obtained are outlined in the club manual. You had to have 3 friends sign-up to become Ensigns. They had to send in the paperwork themselves. Once this was received and verified, you then got credit if the kids agreed. You then had to cut out a coupon from the manual and send it in. We have never seen a copy of the manual with this coupon removed which further indicates few followed up on the requirements. We believe this is only the 3rd example we have offered in our 41 years. Front has moderate wear to the silver luster but most luster remains on center design. Near full luster on reverse.
