1930s. The "Special Offer" cardboard tray is 10x15x1.25" deep with 3 circular cut-outs to hold "Beetleware" (plastic) bowls featuring the ABC's and numerals 0 through 9 on the rim while on the interior is an image of Donald or Mickey. Nine bowls come with this item, each 5.5" in dia. by 2" deep and with 5 showing Donald (2 yellow/1 blue/2 red) and 4 showing Mickey, all in red. The tray insert has 6 splits around the cardboard edges although it would be a simple matter to greatly improve this with some careful gluing. The insert is a little tan at the upper left and the bottom tray itself has a moisture stain on the insert inner surface bottom third but this is not evident with the display bowls in position. With this tray and the bowls comes the sign 10x14" which has instructions to the grocer printed on its bottom edge showing how the sign should be inserted at the top edge of the tray to form a counter or tabletop display. The sign has some noticeable but quite light tanning in the areas of Donald's jacket, at the lower right where the price was meant to be written and towards the bottom left. There is also some creasing along the bottom edge and an apparent repair to a 3" vertical tear from the bottom center upward. While the give-away bowls are relatively common, the tray to display them and the sign to promote them are quite rare. Our only other sign was sold about a year ago and in just slightly better condition than this one for $1,610. 1 red Mickey bowl has 1" rim crack, the other 8 are essentially Mint as made while the tray and sign are Fine.
