Item Description
1942 club kit missing silver club badge, but consists of a total of seven pieces. Original mailing envelope is 6x9". Envelope has scattered wear along margin edges, two brass "ears" off flap closure on reverse and 1 ½” tear below address VG overall. While we note in the Hake’s Price Guide to Character Toys that the envelope was issued in 1943-44 it appears to have also been issued in 1942 perhaps at the latter part of the year. Letter is 5.5x8.5" w/blue printing on yellow paper and includes facsimile signature of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Certificate is 8.5x11" and version w/thirteen character images. Certificate is neatly filled out in pencil with original printed certificate number crossed out and replaced with handwritten number as issued. Rwb stiff paper code wheel is 4" dia. Wheel has lt. dust soiling and a few lt. creases. 3.75x8.5" "Youth And War Effort" pamphlet. The pamphlet reprints M. C. Gaines 1942 CBS radio address which was a defense of comic books and call to involve children in the war effort. A promotional comic that measures 7.5x10.25" titled "The Minuteman Answers The Call". A four page letter by M.C. Gaines titled “School Defense Clubs For Victory” which measures 5.5x8.5” and mentions a $25 Defense Bond to essay winners. This is about the third example we have seen of this letter. Aside from the defects noted, Fine to VF.
