Item numbers 800 though 2307 in auction 193
Item Description
2.5x10x15" box. ©1929, but issued in 1930s. Davidson Porcelain Co., East Liverpool, Ohio. Box illustration features characters on stage with stage lights at bottom. Right and left margin text reads "Humor/Drama/Pathos/Action." Also noted is "No. 20A." Left flap is split at each corner. Moderate handling wear along edges. Side panel reads "Porcelain Characters/Copyright King Features Syndicate Inc." Box top has penciled owner's name. Slightly concave, does not detract from central illustration. Box VG. Box insert holds nine 2" to 5" tall unpainted figures as issued with watercolor pad and brush, but these are missing. Set pre-dates Wimpy. Characters include: Popeye, Olive Oyl, Ham Gravy, Castor Oil, Professor Kilph, The Bandit, Jack Snork, Tinearo, Whiffle Hen. Figures are white plaster. Original owner has added white gloss paint but all are structurally sound with no defects. These figures are very impressive when fully painted and we can recommend a person to do this to make it an outstanding set for display. Also comes with fold-over instructions. Figures are Exc. From the Gary Selmonsky Collection.
