Auction 193 - Part II
Item numbers 800 though 2307 in auction 193
Item Description
Approximately 21" tall. c. 1930s. Maker is unmarked. Sawdust-stuffed highly detailed doll features a Tex Avery-like wolf in tuxedo and spats. In the 1930s and 1940s being called a "wolf" meant you were a womanizer and characters like this doll frequently appeared in cartoons. Portions of head, arms and legs covered by faux fur, torso with tuxedo is felt as is face, hands and feet. Lapels of tuxedo are satin-like and include a fabric flower. Face has leering glass eyes, a toothy grin and a felt tongue sticking out. Button nose has some wear to fur covering and felt has aging. VF. Great design.
