Item Description
Superbly designed 8x13.25x.75" deep box holding parts for the Dixon set No. 2670 from the mid-1930s. Great lid art shows Mickey flying his airplane while below are Minnie, Clarabelle, Horace and Pluto. Inside the box bottom is a green/white cardboard storage tray with all-over images of Mickey and Minnie. This insert has a couple of very trivial pencil marks and holds a generic eraser along with 8 wooden colored pencils. The outer side edges of this bottom tray have 9 mostly small areas where insects removed about 10% of the total surface paper. This creates no problem and under normal circumstances isn't even seen. The box overall is exceptionally clean and the best of the perhaps 2 others we've seen. Set includes a pair of 5.5" orange cards each with a punch-out figure of Mickey or Minnie. Minnie has very tiny tape repair on reverse to one arm. The Minnie card has some penciling as does the Mickey stencil. In addition there are six 7x8.5" pictures meant to be colored with the pencils and this has been overall quite neatly done. One of these pictures includes Mickey in a haystack reading the book "How To Fly" by "Lindy" and his cartoon balloon says "Gee!! But I'd Like To Fly, And Become A Great Aviator Like Col. Lindbergh." This picture has a number of penciled letter "k's" over it. Finally are two separate packages that held Dixon colored pencils. One is numbered 334 and this is empty and has a few tiny puncture marks and some coloring. The front shows Mickey as an artist with Minnie on his canvas while the back shows Horace with his foot on a wooden box. The second package is Dixon #337 and this holds 8 wooden pencils thatare sharpened but appear unused. On this Mickey and Donald are at the globe on the front while on the reverse Goofy holds wooden pencils and laughs at an image of Donald Duck on a piece of paper by his foot. This package has a couple of tiny creases but is clean and VF overall. A rare set and the two pencil boxes come along as a bonus.
