Item Description
3.5x3.5x7.5" tall from the 1930s by the well-known Dutch ceramic company as marked on the underside "Mosa Maastricht" along with a second stamp reading "Auteursrecht Voorbehouden." Portrayed is a great image of a five-fingered Mickey playing a square-bodied guitar while seated against a pedestal. He has an unusually large and rounded pants-covered mid-section while his arms and legs are skinny and angular in the Art Deco design style. His pants have a band of pale gray color mixed in front and back with the creamy white color but this seems to be in the ceramic material as made. The tone shows slightly on the front and is just a bit darker on the rear at each hip area. Also, the bottom rear right corner of the base has a trifle more yellowish-cream tonal variation near where the base of the pedestal on two sides meets the raised rim of the ashtray. Under the base of the figure in the same general area as this tonal variation is a near microscopic 1.5" hairline crack, although the crack seems to be just on the surface with no depth to it at all. While these 2 areas of tonal variation are noticeable on close inspection, the figure itself displays beautifully. This is only the second example we've seen of the piece and the styling of Mickey is quite unique. Rare.
