Item Description
3" deep by 10" long by 10" tall cast iron by J.E. Stephens Co., 1907. This classic bank is also a key collectible for Theodore Roosevelt collectors. Mechanical action is as follows: sliding back a metal piece on the top cocks the rifle, the bear is in the tree stump and the cover closed. A coin is placed on the gun barrel and a lever on the base is depressed. TR's head lowers as if taking aim and the coin shoots into the stump and the bear is to pop up. However, bank needs a minor adjustment as bear does not come up although firing mechanism and levers work well. This could probably easily be remedied by one of the mechanical bank repair craftsmen who advertise in Antique Toy World Magazine. Tree top is an expert replacement, trap is missing from base. The bank's title appears on the front edge of the base in raised letters painted silver against the green. Widely scattered paint wear, 85% plus paint remains. Fine.
