Item Description
Adventure Comics was one of DC’s earliest titles and one of its most exciting anthologies. It featured original Superhero concepts like Hourman and Manhunter that may have not set the world on fire like Superman did, but they were still very interesting. This issue features two of the best characters they ever had, Starman and Sandman. The cover by Jack Burnley is packed with nice detail. The machine that the Mad Scientist is using is an elaborate creation. The urgency of the situation is conveyed through Starman’s tense expression. By placing all the action against such a deep red backdrop, it makes Starman’s crash through the window seem genuinely explosive. You can almost hear the glass shatter. The issue also features the very first artwork that Joe Simon and Jack Kirby did for DC. They make their debut inside on a Sandman story. Eventually they took the character over and even revamped his costume. The pages are off-white to white. It is graded CGC graded NM- 9.2. According to the CGC Census, this copy is tied with one other as the second highest graded copy they have seen. This copy is also acknowledged as being part of the collection of Nicolas Cage.
