Item Description
This issue has a reputation as one of the best science fiction themed covers ever done. The action is imaginative and the color is bright and exciting. Howard Sherman expertly portrayed a vivid example of an interplanetary battle. The writing matches the excitement of the cover as the issue features two of the best writers in the history of either science fiction or comics. Edward Hamilton contributed Chris KL99 and the immortal Gardner Fox added a back-up feature. The title itself stands a perfect example of where comics were heading after superheroes began to drop in popularity. Publishers generally had three options, crime, romance or science fiction. DC started this sci-fi anthology in 1950 and it ran until it’s cancellation with issue #244 in 1974. Over the years it saw many classics including the Atomic Knights, Captain Comet and Deadman. This 52-page issue features art by Curt Swan, Jim Mooney and Dan Barry. The pages are off-white. The book is CGC-certified VF+ 8.5.
