Item Description
9.75x12.75" magazine published by Theatre Magazine Co. Sep., 1929. Magazine deals with various aspects of the theater, actors/actresses and upcoming films. Page 23 features large bw photo "Posed For Theatre Magazine" that showcases Bela Lugosi in menacing pose. Despite Lugosi's hundreds of performances on stage as Count Dracula, he was not Universal's first choice to play the undead Count. Lugosi was selected after the death of Lon Chaney Sr., closer to the time the film went into production in 1930. Brief text underneath photo reads "'Count Dracula' Becomes 'Menace' In The Movies - Bela Lugosi Famous On The Stage As The Sinister Vampire In Dracula, Makes His Bow Before The Movies In The Leading Male Role Opposite Margaret Wycherly In The Thirteenth Chair. He Is Also Slated For The Role Of Dracula In Its Film Version. Before Mr. Lugosi's Success In The Great Thriller He Appeared In The Werewolf, Arabesque, Open House And The Devil In The Cheese." Magazine shows moderate wear with pinch creases and tears to spine and heavy creasing to front cover. VG with Exc. contents. Interesting and historical early Lugosi Dracula content.
