Auction #183 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1290 in auction 183
Item Description
Large 2.25" finely detailed brass shell depicts a strutting rooster wearing waist belt holding a large saber. The rooster was a Democratic Party emblem in this period and ties in with the "cock" portion of candidate Hancock's name. The sword references his service as Civil War general. Listed in Sullivan as WSH1880-34. Muted but extremely clean brass finish. Reverse once had 3 small wire prongs for attachment to fabric but only one of these small brass wires remains. Striking in both size and design. About the third we've seen. From the Joe Brown collection.
