Item Description
Hake #WHH 3018 and with full description shown as Collins #131 in Threads of History. This is red (not brown) on white variety. Collins sizes as 27x26". This is 27x25" with extremely narrow 1/8" hem finely sewn, likely at time of issue, across top and bottom edges. Intensity of red color varies. Most details are easily seen but titles of the circular scenes around the portrait are very faint if at all visible. "William Henry Harrison" beneath the portrait square is clear and fairly easy to read. Above upper left corner of his portrait is .25x1" hole. A couple 1/16" fabric nicks around horse's raised leg. No other holes. Couple dark, small .25x.5" or smaller dark spots on horse's ear and mane. Upper right quadrant has 1" dia. tan spot and couple more dark spots far to right. A few of lesser size widely scattered. Overall the main features of the designs - portrait, surrounding scenes, his name and border design are all easily visible. We cannot see the designer's signature but o/w this is what the piece shows as described by Collins: "In The Center Is The Equestrian Portrait Of William Henry Harrison, Surrounded By Scenes Depicting The Log House At North Bend, The Battle Of Tippecanoe, The Battle Of Thames, The Treaty, The Farmer And The U.S. Capitol. The Banner Bears The Signature Of Its Designer, "A.M. Williamson." There is no other equestrian portrait of W.H.H. shown in Collins. VG, nicely displayable condition. A rarity. The Collins example shows dark stain of lower right corner. To us, even with its evidence of age, this is a special historical textile. Seldom offered.
