Auction #183 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1290 in auction 183
Item Description
1.75" white metal but with silver-plated finish that shows tarnish although combined with extensive rainbow patina in many pastel colors. Front features a large bird-like creature with a donkey head. Front text reads "United Snakes Of America In Bryan We Trust." On the bird's wing are the letters "POP" although the first "P" is lightly rubbed and quite faint. Bkg. has trio of .25" very faint and not deep hairline scratches that show in certain angles. Back of the piece is inscribed "Free Silver 1896" with "One Dam" at center. The concept was that if Bryan's monetary policies were adopted, a silver dime would have to be this large in ratio to the gold value. One of the scarcer and better designs among the many pieces of "Bryan Money" issued to ridicule his policies.
