Item Description
3-1/8x4.75" hinged aliminum case. 3/8" thick. Issued by the "Red Star Line" in conjunction with their 1925 world cruise. The 132-day cruise left New York on Nov. 25th. It visited 60 cities in 14 countries. The lengthy text on the back explains its purpose. The cruise consisted of 475 passengers. The ship is depicted in high relief on the front with a world map detailing the cruise destinations. Text at bottom of case front reads "Largest And Finest Liner Ever To Circle The Globe." She was the 9th largest passenger ship of her day. Eight years after this cruise in 1933 Albert Einstein was on board this ship when he found out Adolph Hitler had become Chancellor of Germany. Einstein got off the ship in Antwerp, sailed on another Red Star liner back to the United States and vowed never to return to Germany. The case is spring-hinged with the original gold elastic strap inside. Overall light general wear. An interesting ocean liner item with an Albert Einstein connection. Fine.
