Item Description
3-5/8x6" with rivet at top holding stiff and thick celluloid sheets forming front and back covers while on the interior are three same size but thinner sheets of celluloid. Most sheets are a deep cream tone but the front of one interior sheet and back of another interior sheet have somehow taken on a much brighter yellow color. Front cover in gold reads "Western Gas Association St. Louis, Mo. May 21-22-23 '90." First sheet, all in gold text, names three "Officers" and six men on the "Committee Of Arrangements." Second and third sheet lists names of men and their businesses on the "Reception Committee." A couple sample business names are "Laclede Fire Brick & Mfg. Co., National Tube Works, Western Brass Mfg. Co., American Meter Co." and many others. Bottom of inside back cover sheet gives the name of this item's maker as "Mermod & Jaccard Jewelry Co. Art Stationers." The entire piece has some waviness to it but a remarkable example of early printing on celluloid now about 118 years old. The largest celluloid format we've seen pre-dating the 1896 button era. Extremely clean.
