Item Description
5.25”x8.5” this heavy card stock mask was issued by Philadelphia Record Newspaper in 1943. Front of mask is plain Batman cowl with “Batman” name emblazed across forehead. Two 1/8” dia. holes for fastening are on each side. Two 1.25” slits have been made at nose giving it a die-cut/3D appearance. A faint crease runs across the top of these slits as nose was bent forward. Reverse of mask features nice head and shoulder images of Batman and Robin with text “Introducing Batman and Robin.” Text below reads “Follow Their Amazing Prodigious Adventures! Now In The Philadelphia Record Daily & Sunday.” At each “ear” there is an image of the Batplane and Batmobile. Underneath are two images showing Batman and Robin in action, image on left has Robin without mask and image on right has Batman without Bat Symbol. These images are slightly obscured by hole punches and die-cut eye holes. Right hand side “ear” has several creases but these do not greatly detract from image and are only noticeable in reflected light. .25” tear at right ear. Reverse has all over trace of spotting caused by printing and stacking, as originally manufactured. Images remain strong and distinct. VF with and Exc. appearance. Rare.
