Item Description
All 3 litho buttons depict "C.E. Ruthenberg." The smallest one is 5/8" and rim includes the text "Our Leader" while flanking his portrait are his birth and death dates of 1882 and 1927. To the right of the photo is a 1/8" vertical scratch with small faint rub above. Majority of button remains clean and glossy. The other two .75" buttons are identical in design and text but one is over-printed in gold and the other over-printed in dark red. Both read "Fight Against Imperialist War - Build The Party." Both have a union bug on the curl but no maker's name. The gold one is missing tiny dots of color under magnification but viewed normally color is very much intact. Paint on the red one is Exc. except for a single pinpoint dot off upper left edge although text and picture are hard to see due to the black and red combination. He was a 1916 Socialist senator candidate from Ohio, around 1919 he helped form the Communist Party USA and in 1924 he was a Workers Party candidate for congress from the Ohio 20th District. Rare.
