Item Description
Toy No. 173 by Nifty distributed by Geo. Borgfeldt. From 1931. 6.5" tall die-cut tin litho with spring plunger mechanism on back. Depicts Mickey holding a pair of drumsticks and has jointed arms while attached to pants is a separate drum with his name on the front while top reads "Nifty Jazz Drummer." This is variety with drum in rwb (see color variety #1731). The separate tin tail is original. Toy works well and when mechanism is activated, the separate drum head rapidly moves up and down as a drumming noise is produced and in turn causes Mickey's arms to move as if he is drumming. Comes in original box with Mickey/Minnie illustrations on 2 sides and both end flaps. Missing one inner flap. One end flap and one inner flap have been neatly re-attached. One panel with text has a long but light crease. Opposite text panel has grease pencil number along one side. However, all panels remain bright and clean and o/w show very little wear. Still displays Fine. Back rim edge of drum head has some small spots of missing paint. O/w toy shows very little wear with just some tiny paint nicks. Bright and glossy with strong color. VF. Rarely found this nice and rarely found with the box.
