Item Description
12.5x18". 1844. Text at top reads "Grand National Whig Prize Banner Badge." Elaborate illustration of Henry Clay in center with eagle above/ladies on either side/a ship to the left/a factory to the right. Text below reads "In All Assaults Our Surest Signal." Below graphic reads "John Gade, Maker/Wm. Curlett, Painter." At bottom "Henry Clay, Statesman Yet Friend To Truth, Of Soul Sincere, In Action Faithful And Honor Clear." Lengthy text at bottom margin includes "The Following Gentlemen Compose The 'Whig Banner Committee' Under Whose Direction The 'Whig National Prize Banner' Was Prepared & To Whom This Badge Is By Permission Most Resp.
