Item Description
Large 4" heavy celluloid button with safety pin fastened at the top of the covered metal back which includes imprint of maker Whitehead & Hoag. Front pictures man in derby hat and reads "$100 Reward For The Capture Of Mr. Raffles - See The Evening World." Button is definitely from the 1920 time period and this coincides with the first U.S. printing in 1919 of Arthur Conan Doyle's book The Doings Of Raffles Haw. If this button is not directly related to the Holmes title, it probably relates to the Holmes-inspired writing of E.W. Hornung who achieved success by inverting Doyle's formulas and creating stories about the gentlemen thief A. J. Raffles. If any of our readers have more definite information, we will amend our description on the website. In any case, the only example we've seen and in Exc. condition. Also one of the thickest pinbacks we've ever seen. Also see Holmes-related buttons #971-74.
