Auction #183 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1290 in auction 183
Item Description
Pair of rare 1.5" buttons used as the plate examples for Hake's Collectible Pin-Back Buttons 1896-1986." Buttons were produced around the time of their famous 1910 match in Reno. Buttons are a near perfect match in terms of designs and colors but they seem to have come from two different makers. The Johnson button has a backpaper from "U.S. Button & Novelty Co. 319 E. 11th K.C., Mo." The Jeffries button has a covered tin back accented by large union bug and the fastener on this is a horizontal bar pin rather than a spring pin. The Johnson button has a very slight bit of very pale gray spotting on the 3 cream bkg. areas surrounding his photo. All else is clean and the button retains its high gloss. The Jeffries button has just the slightest hint of a little gray tone about 1/8" in diameter along the bottom left rim edge but hardly showing and all else is clean with high gloss. From the Hake collection and the only example's we've seen.
