9-7/8x13x1" deep box contains 5 of 6 puzzles by The P.F. Volland Co. Features "Johnny Gruelle's Famous Happy Children." Gruelle was the creator of both Raggedy Ann and Andy. c. 1920s. Volland did books and dolls at this time. Puzzles feature Raggedy Ann and Andy before audience of fairies, image of them celebrating with fairies and dwarf-like characters, scene of them with anthropomorphic animals and scene with them dancing with boy, girl, horse in mens clothes and horse doll as pirates look on. Non-Raggedy puzzle features image of man in kilt with wood-jointed doll boy pointing at Mammy doll. This puzzle is unused and partially unassembled. Each puzzle has nice color design bkg. A few pieces have scattered grease pencil "X" marked on them but o/w set is unused and N. Mint. Box shows wear with corner split and pair of 1" side panel tears and .5" and 1" area of staining on side panel. VG/Fine. Nice set.
