Item Description
Similar to smaller sized statues released c. 1910 (see item #1531), these larger sized statues were, according to brochure included with item #1531, produced "On Account Of The Large Demand From Clubs, Societies, Libraries, Etc. We Were Compelled To Manufacture A Larger Size, Which We Term Our Club Set." Brochure goes on to list height of Mutt at 42" and Jeff at 24" when in fact Mutt stands 35.5" tall. Both painted chalk figures. Each stands on 3.75" tall, 12.25" bases each with their name incised on front. Reverse of bases reads "Registered - 1911 - Copyright 1909-1910 By H.C. Fisher." While similar in design to smaller statues which are shown in our photo for size comparison only, there are subtle differences such as Mutt with hand held out as if he was holding something and Jeff with one hand out of pocket as if he was holding something. Set originally retailed for $18.00. Scattered wear with some paint flakes to edges of bases and raised areas of statues. .5x1" chip to front left bottom corner of Mutt and 1x1.25" flake/chip off back left bottom corner. Both have had professional restoration. Mutt has hairline at ankles below pant cuffs but remain structurally sound. Impressive, large, VF/Exc. displays. Rare and the only set we've seen. The ultimate Mutt & Jeff item.
