Item Description
This lot is of seven different Rosenthal figurines which we consider to be the finest Mickey figurines ever produced. Each is 3.25" to 4" tall. Underside of each has mark of this famous German company which produced these figurines c. 1931-1932. Underside of each also has incised number and those that include additional foil sticker are indicated. These figurines are rare, particularly in the U.S. as they were never distributed here. "493" is the first Mickey Rosenthal and the only in the series numbered in the 400s rather than the 500s or 600s. This early figurine depicts Mickey w/more slender body than other Rosenthals and also has some pale gray shading to his body rather than being just bw. He stands w/hands on hips and behind him is a plant that his tail wraps around. "549" depicts Mickey facing forward w/hands on hips. "551" depicts Mickey in joyful pose w/big toothy grin on his face. Has foil sticker. "553" depicts Mickey playing a saxophone. "554" depicts Mickey playing mandolin. Has foil sticker but this shows some edge wear and is incomplete. "651" has expressive pose depicting Mickey throwing discus. Has foil sticker. "652" depicts Mickey standing w/crossed legs and one hand raised to his head. All are choice, N. Mint condition. A stunning group and a rare opportunity to obtain this many Rosenthals at one time. Rarely have we been able to offer these figurines, in fact, this group of 7 surpasses the total amount offered by Hake's individually over our 41 years. Value for this group as per The Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles by Ted Hake is nearly $19,000. From the Michael J. Stern Collection.
