Item Description
These are among the earliest character buttons, perhaps inspired by Palmer Cox's Brownies. Each is 7/8" and there are 20 different plus a variety of "The Ball Player" with a period following his name for a total of 21 different known. The buttons were primarily a premium from "American Pepsin Gum" but not exclusively. Among these 21, 16 have the American Pepsin Gum backpaper, 2 have "Old Gold Cigarette" backpaper and 3 have generic W&H backpaper. Minimal condition problems. Reverse of ball player without period has 1/8" cello split by reverse. A few small age marks on the front occur on Bad Boy, The Boot Black, The Dude, Greenie, Just Landed. These are quite minor and the group displays N. Mint overall. Only the fourth complete set we've been able to offer.
