Item Description
1.25" reads "Philadelphia Press/Billy Bounce." Reverse has Baltimore Badge paper with couple tiny tan dots on the back celluloid along the collet but front displays totally clean. Circa 1905 and issued to promote newspaper comic strip. While the art is unsigned, we believe it is by W.W. Denslow, noted for his Oz book illustrations, as a hardcover Billy Bounce book exists, crediting Denslow as both author and illustrator. Among the earliest Sunday comics promotional buttons. Hake book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons photo example Comic Characters Section #142. Comes with Hake's COA. One of three we've seen and displays Mint.
