Item Description
Lot of four 3.5x5.5" "American Postcard 'Darktown' series #76. Published by the Ullman Manufacturing Co., New York." All bear 1906 Ullman copyright. Cards feature stereotypical black caricature art by Yellow Kid and Buster Brown creator R.F. Outcault. Cards include #1889 "Koontown Kids" showing children with pull cart; #1890 which shows scared black child against fence as angry rooster confronts him and friend looks on. Text reads "Deed I Dun Eat No Chickun"; #1891 "Darktown Doctors" which shows terrified child in bed as 3 doctors, 1 holding saw and other holding hatchet, pliers at third's feet with text reading "These Doctors Three, Can't Quite Agree, Just What The Trouble Is; So They Propose To 'Operate' To Show, They Know Their Biz."; #1892 "Darkytown Dames" shows 3 stereotypical black women, including 1 Mammy-like character talking. All cards have Outcault facsimile signature. Lt. handling wear/aging but unused and Exc.
