Item Description
7.25x9.25" hardcover by Palmer Cox published by Saalfield in 1894. This is the Brownies fourth book and as implied in title, features The Brownies visiting various countries. Beautifully illustrated preface page has a Brownie "disclaimer" if you will, that reads "Brownies, Like Fairies And Goblins Are Imaginary Little Sprites Who Are Supposed To Delight In Harmless Pranks And Helpful Deeds. They Work In Sport While Weary Households Sleep And Never Allow Themselves To Be Seen By Mortal Eyes." Prose story with several chapters, each page having great Brownie illustrations. One particularly interesting chapter deals with The Brownies in Egypt and shows them standing on the Sphinx and dancing in and around sarcophagus. Another chapter details the Brownies' visit to Japan, particularly interesting illustration showing them crawling on what appears to be the Kamakura Buddha. Book is without issued dust jacket. Cover shows moderate wear with cracks and chips to spine. 1/8x1.5" streak of surface paper missing at bottom of front cover. VG with lightly aged but VF pages. Overstreet price guide values - Good=$100; Fine=$425; VF=$660.
