Item Description
This is a first-seen 1.25" button with name of maker on curl "AM Badge Co. Chi. Ill." Button has small wear in reflected light along with some essentially microscopic tiny rub marks on its outer rim but these pretty much show just under magnification. Button is likely from 1915 when Chaplin became the first movie actor to have a comic strip based on himself. That strip began in early 1915 and was drawn and written beginning March, 1916 by E.C. Segar, the later creator of Popeye. In 1918 Hearst bought this paper and combined it with his Chicago Examiner. A rare and historic button in Fine condition although still displays clean and Exc. Also see Buster Brown Comedies movie button #1038.
