Item Description
1.25" with his actual name done as facsimile signature and surrounding text "For Democracy 100%." Button is from a small series that includes Gene Autry, Wild Bill Elliott, Roy Rogers and Charles Starrett. All are rare as they were issued by the Freihofer Baking Co. only in the Reading, PA area, 1942. We've seen some of these with and without backpapers and this example has a photocopied backpaper included to document the issuer and date. The top stroke of the letter "F" of "For" has just the most trivial touch of age stain and hardly noticeable. All else is Exc. and the piece certainly still displays N. Mint. See matching Roy Rogers #1127. From the Hake Collection and comes with Hake's COA. One of the earliest and among the rarest Hoppy buttons.
