Item Description
Lot of three by Gum, Inc., 1930s. The 24 cards in this set were numbered 97-120 (numbering continued from the standard set of 96 cards issued by Gum, Inc., see item #2532). However, these cards are much rarer making them one of the most desirable and elusive gum card sets of any era. These cards are rare due to licensing issues concerning the likenesses of the stars used on the cards (same situation occurred with their Film Funnies card series) so these cards had a very short distribution run. Each is 2.5x3" with choice art on the front, text backs. Cards are #107 with Harpo Marx, #117 with Wallace Beery and #118 with Leslie Howard. Each has just light aging to margins/reverses, slight corner tip wear more-so on #107 and #117 than #118. Bit of surface wear to reverse of #107. #107 and #117 are Exc. while #118 is Exc./N. Mint. PSA has only graded 15 cards collectively from this set and very few cards are found in this high of a grade. Individual cards are rare, sets even rarer and we know of only 5 sets being offered in the last 35 years, in our last auction we offered one of those sets which sold for $7,590. but most cards were in lower grades than those we are offering in this lot.
