Item Description
Complete set of 8 11x14" lobby cards for the 1931 M-G-M film starring Harry Carey and Edwina Booth. Story deals w/safari in unexplored Africa searching for lost daughter who has become queen of a savage tribe. Title card has great art image showing pair of explorers, one carrying swooning savage queen as elephants charge. Each card has green art image of explorers w/savage queen up trees as elephants surround. Booth is pictured on 6 cards, one of which she is discreetly posed topless on top of a leopard skin. Obvious product of Pre-Code Hollywood w/hints of exploitation and sensationalism. Cards show some lt. scattered aging. Card w/Booth posing has 3/8" crease at bottom right corner. Title card has 1" ft. crease at upper left corner w/tiny tear. Rest of cards have very minor corner foxing. Exc./N. Mint overall. A lobby card set for this film in lesser condition sold at auction in Nov., 2008 for $2868. First film production filmed in Africa that was not documentary-related, this film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
