Box is 3.5x5x.75" deep and contains the complete set of 30 numbered comic folders issued by Orbit Gum Co. in 1933 (see Christmas stocking w/Popeye comic folder #1025). We believe this box is a salesman's promotional issue and text on lid reads "Tattoo Chewing Gum 1¢ w/Pop-Eye Folders Offer No. 8/Packed 120 Pieces/The Biggest Selling Penny Gum In The World/Orbit Gum Co." Box has heavy aging/dust soiling as well as scattered edge wear but no corner splits. VG. Each comic is 2x2.5" and opens to total length of 8". One side is full color w/illustrated story panels while opposite side is bw and features a variety of activities such as crossword puzzle, how to draw, shadow pictures, maze game, fold-ups, dot game, cut-up pictures, etc. Many different Popeye characters are featured. Set is numbered 1-30. All have very lightly aged but remain totally clean. #1 has minor edge wear but Exc. #26 has lt. margin wear, a minor corner crease, VG/Exc. All others are choice Near Mint condition. An exceptional set w/very rare box, the only time we've offered this box in our 42 years. Earlier this year a near-set of 26 in lesser condition and without the box sold for $1320.
