Item Description
14x16x4.5” deep box contains beautiful tin litho wind-up by Automatic Toy Co. c. 1950. Toy unfolds to 7” tall by 14” wide target area plus a 15.5” outward extension of bottom front which comes to a tapered end. Extension has tin gun on swivel turret. Gun is loaded by pulling shooting rod to rear allowing any of the included 6 metal bb’s to fall into the gun barrel. Gun is then fired by releasing spring plunger. Wind-up action drives a cable holding a sequence of die-cut tin miniature stagecoaches followed by 4 robbers on horseback. All fall backwards if struck. Targets have various point values. Foreground pictures Hoppy, Lucky, California. Only lightest trace of wear with some minor oxidation to wind-up key, still in place with original insert in box. Exc. Comes with 3x4.5” Automatic Toy Company catalogue which shows blue/white photo images of their many toys, “Hopalong Cassidy Shooting Gallery” is included within as is “Hopalong Cassidy Toy Television Set.” Box has art image of children playing with toy and bw photo image of Hopalong Cassidy on Topper. Text includes “Endorsed By America’s Favorite Western Star.” Box has numerous tears on sides with 14” split at top edge which has some paint touch-ups. VG overall.
