"SNOOPY" LIMITED EDITION ARTIST PROOFS BRONZE STATUE SET BY ARTIST STAN PAWLOWSKI.
Item Description
Set of 5 large and heavy bronze statues ranging in height of 8.5" tall to 11.75" tall. Each has matching 7x7x1-1/8" deep marble base with felt underneath. Created by noted sculptor Stan Pawlowski, each present Charles Schulz's lovable beagle character Snoopy in a variety of situations/poses. Pawlowski is noted as the creator of the Charles M. Schulz Award, known as the "Sparky," a name Schulz himself went by. Pawlowski is also noted for his sculptures of popular cartoon characters. It was he who sculpted Schulz's graveside memorial that featured 4 "Peanuts" characters as well as Schulz's words from his last "Peanuts" strip - "Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy...How Can I Ever Forget Them." Only 5 sets of Pawlowski's Artist Proof Snoopy sculptures were produced. However only a couple complete sets exist because in most cases, the Artist Proofs sculptures were sold individually (for $9,500 each, which is double the average regular edition price of $4,250) rather than as a complete set of 5 for $47,500. In addition, Pawlowski typically does not number his Artist Proof sculptures, but agreed to do so in this rare instance because of the purchaser's request and because these were the first 5 Artist Proofs being purchased as a set. Therefore, Pawlowski has marked each sculpture "01/25 Artist Proof" along with "Ski" studio copyright. Each sculpture also has Pawlowski's name and "©UFS" incised into the bronze base. Additional "Ski Sculptures And Fine Jewelry" foil label on undersides of each sculpture. Included here are "The Flying Ace," which depicts Snoopy in his most famous persona, that of a World War I flying ace. Wearing his aviator's helmet, Snoopy holds a propellor, perhaps for his Sopwith Camel doghouse? "The Scuba Diver" depicts Snoopy wearing scuba gear, suspended in the currents of a tropical sea, with coral, a starfish and seashells present. "The Magician" depicts a cape-wearing Snoopy pulling the proverbial rabbit out of a top hat, the rabbit being Woodstock wearing rabbit ears. "The Astronaut" has Snoopy ready to blast off into outer space, wearing a US Astronaut's suit, holding his helmet and pack. Of interesting note, NASA has used Snoopy as the mascot of the NASA Safety Program since its inception in 1968. Astronauts of the Apollo 10 Lunar Mission nicknamed the lunar module "Snoopy" and referred to the command module as "Charlie Brown." "The Patriot" shows Snoopy in Revolutionary War outfit, holding a musket at his side. All are very detailed, with the musket of "The Patriot" being extremely detailed as are the undersea elements on "The Scuba Diver." Each sculpture comes in 7-3/8x11-3/8x7.75" deep box which has Charles Schulz's fascimile signature in gold foil with embossed image of Charlie Brown holding a sleeping Snoopy in his lap on top of each lid. Box lid side panels have matching embossed gold foil Schulz art depicting the main characters from "Peanuts." Sculpting for this series of sculptures began in Aug., 2002, with individual releases continued over the next couple of years. All sculptures offered here are Mint as made with N. Mint/Exc. boxes. Among the highest caliber comic character collectibles we have ever offered. Extremely limited.
