Item Description
7x7-1/8” display card contains 6.75” long plastic slide whistle by Bacon Brothers ©1954. While whistle is not marked Davy Crockett, Davy Crockett image on card shows him in coonskin cap playing whistle as birds fly in. Whistle is designed with birdcage and cat looking in at separate bird who bounces up and down as flute is played. Slide extended, flute measures 9.5” long. “Just Breathe In Mouthpiece And Move Slide To…Call Wild Birds, Play Any Tune, Train Canaries And Parakeets.” Card has heavy 7” crease just above flute and handling wear with creasing in lower left corner. Scattered age spotting. VG/Fine with N. Mint flute. Comes with 7x10-7/8” thin cardboard advertising sign with bwr art showing similar scene of Davy Crockett playing flute with singing birds. Woolworth’s sign advertises “Calls Songbirds Plays Any Tune; Trains Canaries, Parakeets; Trills, Warbles, Chirps” with advertised price of 49¢. Scattered moderate edge wear with some tiny creases and tears. VG+. Interesting toy with great design.
