Item Description
About 6x9” with six corner or margin spots of yellowed cellophane tape plus multiple, but not visually distracting old fold lines and small creases. Minor age soil on blank reverse. Overall VG. Graphics and text demonstrate American hatred following Pearl Harbor and this “license” carries the issue date “Dec. 7, 1941.” The seal-like design of Japanese soldier in crosshairs reads “Remember Pearl Harbor/Keep ‘Em Dying.” The “license” ownership line has hand-inked name of “Bridge Drafting Department.” Printed text states they are “Entitled To Hunt The Japanese Rat..A Vicious Animal (that) Strikes From Behind Without Warning.” Additional text compares this animal to a skunk “In Appearance And Odor, But (with) Appetite For Women And Children…Look For The Yellow Stripe Down Its Back.” “License” names “Game Warden” as “Uncle Sam” and “Clerk” as “Hari Cari” concluding “This License Expires Soon, We Hope.” Margin carries text “Advance Print/Indianapolis.” Only example we’ve seen. Rare.
